Policies
Studio Goals:
In my studio, I strive to create a friendly environment in which students can learn without resentment. Students will learn repertoire that is appropriate for their level, but gives them enough of a challenge where they won't get bored. Students will also receive the opportunity to learn music theory and sight singing skills. Lessons will be broken down into three parts: warm-ups, technique, and repertoire.
Students will be able to hone their skills through performance opportunities. Outside of studio recitals, students will be encouraged (not forced) to audition for shows and competitions. Before auditions, students can participate in a mock audition, wherein they will have the opportunity to perform and receive feedback. If a student wishes to perform in theater, lessons will include coaching in acting and performance.
Payments and Refunds:
Lessons will be charged on a monthly basis. Students will receive 4 lessons during a month, and will be charged accordingly. This is to encourage students to attend their lessons throughout the month. All payments will be made at the beginning of the month on the day of the student's lesson.Â
Late Notice, Terminations, and Cancellations:
If a student is running late for their lesson, they are encouraged to reach out to me and let me know. I've prepared my schedule in a way that allows for a little bit of breathing room. Life gets messy, and sometimes people run late. However, this breathing room should not be taken advantage of by students or parents. Warnings will be issued if tardiness or absence is consistent. If multiple warnings are issued, the student may be terminated from the studio.
As a business, James Herndon Music reserves the right to refuse service to anyone. This may be through the form of a termination or rejection of a student. As an individual, I would rather not deal with a situation like that. I want students to feel as if they have earned what they put in, whether that's reflected financially or in the student's skill improvement. That being said, I don't wish for my time/money or your time/money to be wasted.
Cancellations and absences, if given a two-week notice, is acceptable. Students will be given the opportunity to make up lessons when notice is given. With this stipulation, I will not be giving refunds for missed lessons unless it is a cancellation that I have made.
